Rachel is a freelance dancer and choreographer whose interest lies in linking the psychological with the physical. She has graduated from the University of Malta with a B.A. in Psychology (2006-2009) and a B.A. in Dance Studies (2012-2015). Rachel became a certified DanceAbility teacher in 2012 (Impulstanz, Vienna) which is an inclusive improvisational dance practice. She has worked and performed with a variety of groups including Contact Improvisation Malta for Notte Bianca 2015, participating in an MCC and V18 Match Funded project with the Rubberbodies Collective during August 2015, performing for Toi Toi during the 2015/2016 season and with Teatru Santwarju for the 2016 edition of Żigużajg Festival. In 2016 Rachel choreographed a piece for ŻfinMalta Dance Ensemble entitled ‘Eve’, premiered in Tlieta during the Malta Arts Festival 2016. Rachel is also a founding member of Żugraga Dance Organisation, an NGO that aims to make dance more accessible to the community and communal matters more accessible through dance. Żugraga performed in Sliema Arts Festival 2016 as well as in public spaces and day preceding the premier of their full length production ‘Barcode’ in August 2016. Rachel has been a teaching assistant with Opening Doors Association since 2014 and has taught workshops at Inspire (2013/2014), Gudja Youth Group (2015), San Miguel Resource Centre (2016/17) as well as in other community settings and dance schools. As from October 2016 Rachel will be directing the Opening Doors Dance group, a position she approaches with great responsibility and an equal measure of excitement.
