Douglas Comley – Theatre Group Leader

Douglas graduated in Performing Arts At Middlesex University in London. He began his professional career with Nexus Dance Company under the direction of Nigel Charnock (DV8). From then he worked as a performer and dance education outreach worker internationally with companies across Europe. He then returned to Wales to teach dance in Further Education, co- direct County Youth Dance Company and become Male Dance Development Officer for TAN Dance.

Douglas became the director of the Welsh male dance company Dynion for 15 years touring nationally and internationally to raise the profile of male dance leading to Creative Arts Wales award winner in 2011.

Throughout this period he has also been involved in the choreography and implementation of several large-scale Opening Ceremonies. These include the Rugby World Cup, The Millennium Youth Games, Dubai City Festival, Commonwealth Games and the World Gymnaestrade.

Lately he devised two productions for the Performing Arts Department (University of Malta) and directed devised inclusive production Automaniacs for Ziguzajg 2021.

Douglas continues to work for Opening Doors Association, Incite Motion Dance School and tutor the Teatru Manoel Youth Dance Company. He is currently the leader of Opening Doors Association’s Theatre Level 1 and 2 groups.
