Luke Baldacchino is a full-time percussionist and music educator. He holds a first class B.A. (Hons.) in “Music Performance” from the University of Malta. His program included an array of classical percussion and jazz drumming repertoire. Additionally, he is proficient in Latin American percussion. In 2012 he participated in a jazz course in Sicily, which included master classes conducted by some of the best jazz artists in Europe. Luke has also been awarded a Board Prize (ABRSM) in advanced level violin performance.
Luke has performed in various major local festivals, including the Malta Arts Festival in which he was invited to perform as a solo artist. He is also an occasional performer with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, he recently joined the orchestra on a tour in China. Luke regularly performs as a session drummer and percussionist in various projects and with many established artists on the island.
Luke is a certified music educator, holding a post-graduate certificate in education (P.G.C.E.) from the University of Malta. He teaches music and percussion courses for young children and adults at ‘The Box – a creative arts space’.
Luke is committed towards the active involvement of persons with learning disabilities in the arts through music. He is actively involved with “Opening Doors Association”, and has been leading the music group since its birth. His work extends to other Centres around Malta including Paola Day Centre and Wardija Resource Centre, leading percussion workshops to such people.
In 2015, Luke has established his own band The Tailors, with the aim to provide professional music entertainment for weddings, functions, and public events. His contributions for the band are that of music director and arranger, drummer, and backing vocalist.
