Sarah Amato joined Opening Doors Association as the new Artistic Director in September 2023.
Sarah has plenty of experience as a performer herself and has read for a BA (Hons) in Theatre Studies at the University of Malta, followed up by a Masters in Translation and Terminology. In the latter, her focus was how translation tools can be used to create a more inclusive environment in the world of performance arts for people with disabilities such as those with visual impairments.
Her studies were mainly focused on exploring accommodating diverse audiences rather than the artists themselves.
Before her appointment as Artistic Director, Sarah completed an internship with Opening Doors in 2019, as stage manager for the annual May performances and has since often worked with members of the artistic team and followed the organisation’s work.
As Artistic Director, Sarah hopes to maintain the same level of passion and dedication that was brought to the organisation by previous Artistic Directors and to put her many years of experience and skills to good use with the artistic team and members.
