Opening Doors to the Performing Arts: Difference and Diversity
Edited by Jo Butterworth
Published by Opening Doors
Opening Doors Association, Malta, is an arts organization that provides opportunities for adults (18+) with diverse intellectual needs in the performing arts. In 2018, we published a collection of essays written by authors involved with OD, with support from Arts Council Malta, and in partnership with Spazju Kreativ.
Opening Doors to the Performing Arts contains nine chapters, many from presentations given at the symposium. Jo Verrent, Tim Wheeler, Carol Brown, and Lou Ghirlando shared good practice of leading, guiding, mentoring and facilitating practical performing arts workshops demonstrating their particular understandings of disability issues through a broad range of practical/theoretical pedagogical approaches. Lou Ghirlando and Peter Bosmans trace the histories of the organisation, and Opening Doors Artistic Director Ilona Baldacchino and Music leader Luke Baldacchino give insights into their current practice.
Jo Butterworth edited the book and wrote the Introduction, and Brian Gauci and Denise Vella wrote Easy Read summaries.
